Mediensymposion: Excavating the Future: An Archeology and Future of Moving Pictures was a gathering of artists, scientists, historians, and futurologists held from 2-5 December 2001 at the Goethe Institute Prague. The symposium continued the tradition of the Prague Media Symposium series organised by the Goethe Institute Prague between 1992 and 1997.

The concept was initiated by art historian and curator Jaroslav Anděl who approached the director of SCCA Ludvík Hlaváček. Consequently it was discussed with the director of the Goethe Institute Prague and realised in collaboration with Miloš Vojtěchovský, Michael de la Fontaine, cultural director of the Goethe Institute Prague, and Michael Bielický from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.

Participants: Gert Aertsen, Jaroslav Anděl, Roy Ascott, Guy van Belle,Bohuslav Blažek, Dieter Daniels, Erik Davis, Richard Grusin, Tom Gunning, Jiří Hoskovec, Ivan M. Havel, Christian Huebler, Erkki Huhtamo, Ryszard Kluszczynski, Richard Kriesche, Miklós Peternák, Rolf Pixley, Claudia Schmacke, Barbara Maria Stafford, Mirek Vodrážka, Siegfried Zielinski (Ivan M. Havel, Bohuslav Blažek and Jiří Fiala didn't present, Werner Nekes cancelled his participation).
