Laboratory of Presentation Techniques
Laboratorium Technik Prezentacyjnych [The Laboratory of Presentational Techniques] was an artist group founded in December 1975 by students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice: Grzegorz Zgraja, Jacek Singer, Jadwiga Singer and Marek Kołaczkowski. The group's informal inauguration was an event entitled Portrait where the artists used graphic and photographic techniques to create portraits and self-portraits and turned the space of the staircase at the Academy of Fine Arts into an environment. The artists later explored different possibilities of working with film and video, using, among other things, the cameras from the Silesian University of Technology. The group was active until the late 1970s, creating numerous works in various graphic techniques, photographs and, above all, video: installations and broadcast works. An interesting aspect of their work (particularly evident in Grzegorz Zgraja's) was an interest in the relationship between sound and image. Traces of John Cage's work are clearly visible in his works. Jacek Singer often produced closed-circuit works. Jadwiga Singer used her own image in her work, and also worked with 16 mm film. Some of these are analytical works of a structural nature, but there were autobiographical and feminist themes in some of them.
