Hi,
I would have a wish, and namely if you don´t have a possibility (I couldn´t find it anywhere online) to find and share the book by Matthew G. Kirschenbaum – Mechanisms: New Media and the Forensic Imagination. MIT Press, 2008.
The book drive by Jordan Crandall seems realy important.
here is his site. http://jordancrandall.com/main/index.html
I don’t know how you work but you are doing an incredible job.
I think Armando Silva work on urban imaginaries is awesome. It’s my favorite reasearcher anyway.
There are several English publications of his
– SILVA, Armando, i Alexander Honory. One World with Many Faces. Bogotá (Viena: Salon Verlag, 1998)
– SILVA, Armando (ed.). Urban imaginaries from Latin America. Documenta 11 (Kassel: Documenta i Museum Friedericianum-Veranstaltungs GmbH, i Ostfildern-Ruit: Hatje Cantz Publishers, 2003)
– A Silva and others Global imaginaries, Fears, Bodies and Doubles en: Cat, Microwave and Tinfoil, editado por Lars Bang Larsen y Lars Mathicen, Copenhagen: The Danish Arts Agency
Most of this books you can get in amazon.com
Hey, is there any possibility of sourcing “A Year With Swollen Appendices” by Brian Eno? Some interesting essays/theories in it, but unfortunately the book is now out of print.

Hi,
how about “Hertzian Tales: Electronic Products, Aesthetic Experience, and Critical Design” by Anthony Dunne?
I think it would be realy great if there was in adjunction to this site a hub for edupunksters to interact and learn based on the reading material you provide us with. To be an autodidactic learner is a loners affair that can get to be taxing on the moral at times. Such a space would allow for a community to emerge which would makes it possible to discuss, share and even apply what is learned in the real world better.
This is idealy the purpose of the site I’m working on but you are in a much better position to lauch one considering all the people who download books and who suscribe to your mailing list.
Though reflection in action projects are what can turn education into something totaly else and worthwhile as opposed to the feudal model we still have most everywhere, I think that you and a Drupal site could help make possible this other viable and stimullating alternative that networked communities can make possible.
Thank you very much for your attention and always surprising work!

hi Simon,
thank you for the good point.
Put shortly, Monoskop/log was not meant to be a discoursive platform. It is an offshoot of our research into media arts and culture, and in itself is a small attempt to give a slight push to humanities academia to find its way out from the 20th century narratives. The literature and references are on the table.
In other words, this site aims to make the literature for media studies and overlapping and bordering fields more visible, and to inspire other initiatives to make their own use of it.
If you are willing to build a discussion platform, i’ll be happy to give a hand.
Dusan
PS. I have to say, I’m very much surprised the site still exists. Up to this day we only got three complaints (one from a publisher, one from an author, and one from a magazine editor), while there is around a thousand PDFs linked. I believe it says a lot about the collective need for this kind of resource and about how media culture shapes our society, which is another reason to pursue similar initiatives.
Hi!

A full archive torrent is still an option, although I think time is ripe to diversify the resource and spread the content also across other carriers like aaaaarg.org, web-based Calibre libraries, and .onion hosting, maybe even organise an event for f2f sharing. There are also ideas to use the OCR’d content from PDFs to create some kind of online media/art encyclopedia on Monoskop wiki. Help and proposals are always appreciated.

After Art
David Joselit
ISBN: 9780691150444
Art as we know it is dramatically changing, but popular and critical responses lag behind. In this trenchant illustrated essay, David Joselit describes how art and architecture are being transformed in the age of Google. Under the dual pressures of digital technology, which allows images to be reformatted and disseminated effortlessly, and the exponential acceleration of cultural exchange enabled by globalization, artists and architects are emphasizing networks as never before. Some of the most interesting contemporary work in both fields is now based on visualizing patterns of dissemination after objects and structures are produced, and after they enter into, and even establish, diverse networks. Behaving like human search engines, artists and architects sort, capture, and reformat existing content. Works of art crystallize out of populations of images, and buildings emerge out of the dynamics of the circulation patterns they will house.
Examining the work of architectural firms such as OMA, Reiser + Umemoto, and Foreign Office, as well as the art of Matthew Barney, Ai Weiwei, Sherrie Levine, and many others, After Art provides a compelling and original theory of art and architecture in the age of global networks.
David Joselit is the Carnegie Professor of the History of Art at Yale University. His books include American Art Since 1945 (Thames & Hudson) and Feedback: Television against Democracy.

I’d like to see some issues of the argentine literary magazine SUR, from 1931 – 1992 founded by Victoria Ocampo.
Many thanks for your reply but I was already aware of these publications. Unfortunately, I live in a country where university libraries don’t have most of the books and journals I need for my research so I normally end up buying all the books that I have online access to – at least when their price is not outragely expensive such as this one.
Anyway, thanks for your reply again.

Hi Nick, there is one short bibliography here, atm limited to what is accessible online.
I’d recommend Kenneth Ellis’s The Post Office in the 18th Century (1958), if you can find it: it describes itself as an administrative history of the British post office but it’s actually an amazing account of the institutional spying conducted by the GPO from the ‘Secret Office’ in Lombard Street. I can’t find it in electronic form anywhere.
have you come across books by rupert sheldrake, specifically morphic resonance? // i’ve been looking for them for a while without success, not even people at aaaa.org have them. Thanks!

Metaphors of Memory by Douwe Draasima would be a powerful addition to the collection, it deserves a close and wider reading (but it is a rare and pricey book) : about the analogies drawn between technology and the very idea/representation of memory (from wax to photography, or even our very technological lexicon).

Hi,

Hi,
I think it would be realy great if there was in adjunction to this site a hub for edupunksters to interact and learn based on the reading material you provide us with.
Besides that there is a handful of autonomous (on/offline) initiatives that provide a social field and an infrastructure for organic peer to peer learning (aaaaarg.org & The Public School, mailing lists, P2P Foundation, University of Openness, and many more).

An incredibly valuable resource! Thank you very much for your efforts.
My request is not for a book, but rather about your upload service. Multiupload seems to be down for good. I realize it is a large amount of work, but will you be migrating your archive to another service?
Raymond Spiteri (ed), Surrealism, Politics and Culture, Ashgate Publishing Limited.
I think monoskop is only missing Surrealist politics in its avant-garde archive :)
plk, Multiupload is a great loss indeed. Help and proposals are always appreciated.
plis, links are broken, mediafire could be an option…

Hi mactek, there are many other publications on filesharing and hacker culture that are freely available online: http://monoskop.org/log/?tag=filesharing & http://monoskop.org/log/?tag=hacker-culture; if you are interested in any particular sub/topic, let us know.
Dear Dusan,
Many thanks for your reply but I was already aware of these publications. Unfortunately, I live in a country where university libraries don’t have most of the books and journals I need for my research so I normally end up buying all the books that I have online access to – at least when their price is not outragely expensive such as this one.
Anyway, thanks for your reply again.
Thank you for your efforts, this is the most beautiful corner of the internet.
I wanted to make a request, even though you’ve done so much already: Frances Yates – “The Art of Memory”, 1966. Any chance of finding it?

Maybe I missed it, this one I would really like to read: The Transformative Humanities by Mikhail Epstein.

Fantastic!
You do an extraordinarily valuable thing, Dusan…

Thanks in advance…
Hey monoskopers, Unfortunately we missed Jimmie Durham’s talk at Berlin Documentary Forum #3 last week, and reading some incredible excerpts from his: A Certain Lack of Coherence: Writings on Art and Cultural Politics (1993 , Kala Press) … Now hungry to scoop some more from his Cherokee indigenous perspective. … Mucho Thx, XLterrestrials
Hey Pod, here’s an article on creativity and the social process, and an interview.
Metaphors of Memory by Douwe Draasima would be a powerful addition to the collection, it deserves a close and wider reading (but it is a rare and pricey book) : about the analogies drawn between technology and the very idea/representation of memory (from wax to photography, or even our very technological lexicon).

It’d be great to have Tim Armstrong’s Modernism, Technology and the Body (Cambridge University Press, 1998) up on here. Speaks to a lot of concerns re: media, embodiment, political economy, art etc. & it’s not available on any of the usual sharing sites…

Is this the place to talk about https://library.memoryoftheworld.org/#/books/ ? Im writing a program to get all the content onto lbry.com and their decentralized app so that the content is immortalized and will always be able to be accessed. My current issue is being able to get the tags for the content. I see that you can search by tags, but I cant seem to find the tags for the content anywhere. Is there a place where I can find those tags, or can anybody help me find out how to get the tags for books on that site?

Focusing on the deeper and melodic shades of house, Mojoheadz’s imprint has been a strong purveyor of tracks that DJs simply love to play and when coming across the unmistakable abstract record covers at record stores, they simply beg our attention. https://soundcloud.com/mojoheadz/sets/deep-house
Can anyone please send me an e-book of John Mikhail – Elements of Moral Cognition. It is there on Cambridge core but I have no access to it and didn’t find it on libgen too. It would be of immense help to me.
Please someone tell http://library.memoryoftheworld.org/
Their site has been “upgraded” to oblivion, leaving behind all who don’t play the fake silicon valley upgrade game.
Sad.
Winston, isn’t the page loading for you at all ? What browser are you on?
