Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problémem žánrů na platformách online videa, a to formou případové studie založené na vzorku videí nasbíraném na stránce YouTube (www.youtube.com). K analýze žánrů je využit systém pěti úrovní žánrové denominace, formulovaný Jeanem-Marie Schaefferem. Práce má tři základní části. V první jsou zmapovány různé pohledy na koncept žánru jak napříč historickým vývojem zejména literární kritiky a teorie, tak i z hlediska novodobých tendencí a vybraných postojů některých kulturních teoretiků, kteří se ve svém díle na žánr soustředili. Dále jsou přiblíženy klíčové otázky, jež současný teoretický žánrový diskurs zaměstnávají. Druhá část se týká online videa na komunitních webech a postupně zachycuje elementární akce uživatelů v prostředí těchto webů, jednotlivé fáze existence online videa, autorský a divácký aspekt a konečně představuje i samotnou stránku YouTube. Ve třetí části pak autorka charakterizuje žánry identifikované v rámci vzorku s pomocí Schaefferova systému a shrnuje jejich klíčové distinkční rysy.
